Citrus County homes don’t come from one mold. Picture a brand-new house in Citrus Springs, a club villa in Citrus Hills, a cottage a few blocks from the lake in Inverness or a farmhouse at the end of a long dirt drive. Each has different doors, and a different reason for wanting glass. Glass door inserts in Citrus County have to work for all of them, so we start with your house and go from there.
The job itself stays simple. Our custom glass door inserts go into the doors you already have. Expect one install visit of about 1–2 hours, and no trim removal or repainting afterward. In most cases you keep the door, the frame and the lock you know, and you gain light, privacy and a look that suits how you live.
Which kind of Citrus County home are you working with?
The right glass depends a lot on the house around the door. Here’s how we think about the main types of homes you’ll find from the Gulf side of the county over to the Tsala Apopka lakes.
Citrus Springs and the lots still filling in
Parts of the county are still filling in, and Citrus Springs is the obvious example. The Mackle brothers laid it out through the Deltona Corporation as a subdivision of more than 34,000 homesites. Plenty of new houses are still going up between the older ones. A lot of new homes arrive with a flat slab front door and an equally plain garage service door out to the yard.
A new front door glass insert is one of the easiest ways to give a new house real curb appeal instead of a standard-issue look. Whether you just closed on a new build or you’ve been in yours a couple of years, our page on glass inserts for new construction homes covers the details.
55+ and retirement communities
Citrus County has a long history with retirement living. More than a third of residents were seniors as of 2014, and Beverly Hills was one of the first retirement-oriented planned communities in Central Florida. Sugarmill Woods sees its population climb every winter when seasonal residents come back down.
In a 55+ neighborhood, the wish list is usually practical. You want more natural light in a dim foyer, a way to tell someone’s on the step before you open the door, and glass that’s easy to keep clean. Enclosed blinds sealed between the panes are a favorite, since there are no cords and nothing to dust. Our 55+ communities page goes deeper.
Golf and gated communities
In Black Diamond Ranch, a private gated club community in Lecanto, or Terra Vista in Citrus Hills, your front door is part of a shared look. Many communities like these have an architectural review committee or written guidelines. We’ll help you choose a design and caming finish you like, and you can check your guidelines or ask your committee what it needs before you commit to anything.
Established neighborhoods and older homes
Inverness, Floral City and Crystal River have streets full of homes that have been loved for a long time. Floral City in particular has its share of historic houses. A solid older door often has years of good service left. If its glass has fogged or cracked, door glass replacement lets you keep the door and start fresh with a new insert. Decorative glass inserts with bevels and textures set in metal caming suit these homes well, especially in an oil-rubbed bronze or patina finish.
Rural property and acreage
Out past the subdivisions, plenty of homes sit on bigger lots where nobody’s walking past your front door. Privacy matters less there, so clear or Low-E glass makes sense for the view down the drive. The side door, the workshop’s service door and the garage door often get more use than the front, so they’re worth a look too.
Picking glass for Citrus County sun, water and privacy
Most of the decision comes down to three things: how much privacy you want, how much sun hits the door, and how close you are to the water. Our privacy and textured glass is rated Low, Medium, High or Max, which makes it easy to match the glass to where the door sits. Clear and Low-E glass suits doors where light and view matter most. Grilles between the glass give you a traditional grid look with nothing to clean around.
| Type of home | A good place to start | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| New build on a quiet street | Medium or High privacy decorative glass | Adds character to a plain slab door while still blurring the view into the house |
| 55+ villa or patio home | Enclosed blinds between the panes | Light when you want it, privacy when you don’t, and no cords or dusting |
| Golf or gated community home | Bevels in caming with a finish that matches your hardware | Suits a shared neighborhood look, though your guidelines come first |
| Older home in town | Traditional decorative glass or grilles between clear glass | Keeps the classic character of the house |
| Waterfront or full-sun door | Low-E or gray turtle glass | Low-E trims heat and turtle glass softens glare on doors that bake in the afternoon |
Impact-rated versions of many designs are available too, so impact glass doesn’t have to look plain. Just remember that the rating belongs to the whole tested assembly of glass, frame and door together, not the insert alone. So we’ll talk through what makes sense for your door instead of promising a label. Caming comes in patina, satin and platinum nickel, black chrome, oil-rubbed bronze, wrought-iron looks, black or silver aluminum, and brass on some designs. You can browse the designs in our catalog to get a feel for how each finish pairs with the glass.
Glass door inserts in Citrus County, town by town
We work with homeowners all over the county, and each area has its own personality. If you’d like to read more about yours, every town has its own page.
Along the coast. In Crystal River, homes sit around spring-fed Kings Bay, where hundreds of manatees gather in winter. Homosassa sits near the Homosassa River and the Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins, and Homosassa Springs is named for the warm spring at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. In both, doors facing the water or the afternoon sun are good candidates for turtle glass. To the south, Sugarmill Woods was planned around villages with names like Cypress, Oak and Pinewood.
The middle of the county. Lecanto is where you’ll find the county government building on Sovereign Path. Nearby, Black Diamond and Citrus Hills are known for golf, while Beverly Hills is almost entirely wrapped by Pine Ridge.
The north end. Citrus Springs runs along US 41 with the Withlacoochee State Trail alongside it in places, and Hernando sits on the northern edge of the Tsala Apopka chain of lakes.
The east side. Inverness, the county seat, sits on the western shore of the Tsala Apopka and Henderson lakes. There’s a Withlacoochee State Trail trailhead right across from Liberty Park. Floral City sits at the 23-mile marker of that same trail, at the southern end of Tsala Apopka Lake, with East Orange Avenue running through town.
If you’re just over the line, we also cover Hernando County, Marion County and Sumter County, along with the rest of our service areas.
More than the front door
The entry door gets the attention, but it’s rarely the only door that would benefit. A garage door is often the biggest surface on the front of a Citrus County house. Glass across the top panels changes the whole street view. Our garage door glass inserts page has the details.
Out back, a cabana or pool-bath door that opens onto the lanai is a good spot for privacy glass. The pool bath gets light, while anyone outside sees only soft, blurred shapes. Read more about cabana door glass inserts, and don’t forget side, service and patio doors. We can install glass door inserts in most exterior doors, and a free estimate confirms yours.
What the process looks like from your first call
Getting glass door inserts in Citrus County starts with a conversation about your door and what’s bugging you about it. Then we help you narrow down designs, privacy levels and finishes, and your insert is sized to fit your door. Our how it works page follows a job from first call to finished door.
Installation is one visit, usually about 1–2 hours. In most cases your door stays on its hinges, and there’s no trim to pull off or paint to touch up afterward. We protect and clean the area we work in, so the entry looks tidy when we pack up. Call us at (866) 326-9947 if you’d like to talk it through first.
Questions Citrus County homeowners ask us
Do you come out to every part of Citrus County?
We work throughout the county, whether you’re near the water in Crystal River, on a back road outside Floral City or inside a gated community in Lecanto. If you’re unsure about your address, just call. We also cover the neighboring counties.
My community has an architectural review committee. Can you help with that?
In a limited way. We can give you the design name, the caming finish and a photo of the design. Your committee or written guidelines will tell you what else it needs before you sign off.
Which glass works best on a door that takes hard afternoon sun?
Low-E glass helps with heat, and gray turtle glass adds tint to cut glare on doors that face the sun or the water. Both are worth asking about during your estimate.
How do I know if my door can take an insert?
We can install glass door inserts in most exterior doors, but we don’t guess sight unseen. A free estimate is how we confirm what works for your specific door.
Will I be without a front door for the day?
Usually not. Installation is typically about 1–2 hours in a single visit, and in most cases the door stays hung the whole time.
